This service is available for anyone over 60, providing the opportunity for older people who are lonely or isolated to get out for a few hours, to enjoy some companionship, activities and lunch, in their local area. This often gives family carers their own break though the service is equally open to carers or "cared for".
Activities are varied and wide-ranging, including for example quizzes, handicrafts, games and films, with regular outings to the coast, theatre or meals out with entertainment.
We currently run six groups, meeting between 10.30 and 2.30 pm on different days of the week. These take place at a variety of locations across the borough to widen access as much as possible and ensure no-one has too far to travel to get to a meeting. Our current groups meet at Collier Row, Harold Hill, Romford, South Hornchurch and Upminster, though we are hoping to expand and run more.
Carers often benefit just as much from the service - many of our clients have family carers at home or often living some way away, and the service is essential in giving them peace of mind and a break from their caring responsibilities.
