Volunteering with Age Concern Havering
Without the support of volunteers, we could only achieve a fraction of the work we do. We currently have over 290 volunteers, actively working in both "hands-on" and support roles, in every service across the charity, but we need many more. In Befriending, for example, over 60 trained and matched volunteers visit or telephone isolated, often housebound, older people to provide companionship and a link to other services.
For all our volunteers, we offer:
- full induction, training and support
- work experience
- the chance to make new friends
- regular "thank you" and information events, and
- genuine satisfaction from making a difference to the lives of older people
We are also delighted to be able to offer volunteering opportunities for people with learning disabilities, all of which are fully supported by dedicated staff.
"I have volunteered for Age Concern Havering since retiring some 30 years ago and have helped out in several different services. The work has always been a pleasure and has given me a wide social life, enabling me to make new, lasting friendships. I also feel it has helped me stay younger, both physically and mentally. I leave every day with a feeling of real satisfaction that my small contribution has helped make someone happier".
